Society Outing To Newport: Friday 23rd August 2019
Sixteen members travelled to Newport to enjoy a viewing of the medieval ship. We had one of the stewards tell us all about the ship and what work is being carried out to preserve the remains. When you consider that this medieval ship is longer than the SS Great Britain it must have been a giant in its time. After viewing the ship we then went to the Transporter Bridge, about a mile and a half away. The majority of us rode across on the platform which carries the cars, but a few intrepid members took the high walk to cross the bridge . The height of the gangway is 247 feet from the deck of the bridge roughly the same as the Clifton Suspension Bridge. We had very good weather and I believe the trip was enjoyed by all.
Here follows a selection of photos from our day.
