Society Outing to Hartland Abbey 14th July 2019
With a full coach, including members and a few friends, we set off from the Kingswood Park, main gate, at 8.00am to spend a day at Hartland Abbey, just a few miles from Clovelly, North Devon, arriving at 11.10 am.
We were transported by Chauffeur Hire of Chipping Sodbury, driven by none other than Ian, the Gaffer, a first class driver.
We split the party into two halves, 25 in each group. We were then given a guided tour of the Abbey, 30 mins apart, told of the family history and that this was the last abbey to be closed by King Henry VIII. We then retired to a private room to have a buffet prepared by the catering staff, which was very delicious.
There was a choice of things to do including a beach walk, walled garden, greenhouses, bog garden and the Cathedral of North Devon. Members remarked how nice the walled garden and greenhouses were.
We had a raffle, lots of prizes, then it was time to make the homeward journey leaving at 4.45pm arriving home at 8.00pm. All together a very nice day out.
