The Unveiling Of The New Heritage Board

A new heritage board with highlights of Kingswood’s history was officially unveiled in the park on January 9th 2016 by the Chair of South Glos Council, Councillor Erica Williams.

The Kingswood History Society installed the Board with the help of the Friends of Kingswood Park, Sovereign Housing, the Southwest Foundation and South Glos. Council. Our thanks go to each of them.
The Artwork on the board, in the form of cartoon characters, was drawn by the Bristol illustrator Sam Church.

Featured on the board are the Town’s boot and shoe trade, the infamous Cock Road Gang, the Whitfield Tabernacle, Douglas Motorcycles and Professor Colin Pillinger, the planetary scientist, who was born and educated in Kingswood. His widow Judith and sister Doreen Lindegaard were guests at the unveiling. Other invited guests included Bill Douglas, great grandson of the founder of the world known motorcycle firm, local councillors, and members of the Friends and History Society. After the ceremony, everyone retired to the Club pavilion where a first class buffet was provided by the members of the Bowls Club .
